In Microcomputers I had the opportunity to learn about many different types of technologies that are available in our classrooms and how to use them to supplement teaching and enrich learning. We learned how to integrate technology into our lessons to make learning of all subjects more enjoyable for the students, and to help make new knowledge more permanent in student’s minds. We learned a variety of technologies that would greatly improve teaching and learning at all grad levels and all levels of experience.

Why is technology important?...

Technology is an extremely important factor in education. The world is moving very fast and in order to prepare our students to survive in this world we must give them access and training in the technological applications that they will be expected to use in the career field. At the very minimum students need to be confident working with technology so that when they encounter something they are not familiar with they know that they have to tools and ability to figure it out and learn on their own.

Teachers are put on a steep learning curb working with students who are computer natives, but it is our responsibility to adapt in order to properly prepare our students for life after high school. Even the most basic jobs require applicants to apply online and know how to type and navigate the internet. Other jobs require previous knowledge of spread sheets, Excel, PowerPoint and other programs. From now on student’s familiarity with technology will be essential to their success and it is our duty as educators to insure that our students will succeed in the world they will eventually live in.

Some of the things I gained experience with in this class are…

·         Webbe books

·         Making personal trading cards

·         Making computer generated quilts

·         Windows Media Player

·         Excel

·         Wiki

·         Webquest

·         Webinar

·         Interwrite boards

·         PowerPoint

·         Kidspiration

·         Geometers sketch pad

·         And many more

I believe that any one of these can be integrated into any subject’s curriculum to enhance students learning and make education more enjoyable and permanent for young learners.
